St. Vincent School
Quality Education and Counseling

The day program of St. Vincent School is a state accredited and approved Special Education School for children with emotional disturbances, learning disabilities and/or behavioral disorders.  St. Vincent School offers immediate placement for children, ages 6-16, residing in the St. Louis Metropolitan Area in need of special education services, with a process that engages the parents and the child's home school. Children are taught according to their strengths and abilities.

St. Vincent School's purpose is to provide special education and counseling without delay for children in need of an alternative to the traditional classroom setting. Upon assessing each student's academic needs, the School provides instruction to meet those needs and to prepare the student for a successful reintegration into a traditional school setting.

Upon accepting a child for enrollment, St. Vincent School makes a commitment to that child and his/her parents/guardians to  provide a quality individualized education and counseling regardless of obstacles. The school's primary goal is to prepare each child to return to their community school with the behavior, academic and social skills needed to ensure success.

St. Vincent School is approved by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Division of Special Education and Accredited by the Missouri Chapter of the National Federation of Non-public School State Accrediting Associations to serve children with a variety of learning disabilities and/or behavior or emotional disturbances.

At St. Vincent School, children are placed in co-educational classrooms with a maximum of 10 students, one teacher and one teacher's assistant. The School also utilizes trained volunteers who assist in the classroom, provide instruction on special projects and serve as tutors for the children.

St. Vincent School works with the local school districts to develop an Individual Education Plan (IEP) while providing instruction to those students who currently have an IEP.

St. Vincent School utilizes a specialized educational curriculum that can be tailored to meet each child's specific needs. Subjects include math, language arts, reading, social studies and science. Curriculum materials include the Saxxon Math curriculum and the Read 180 computer-based reading curriculum.

A character building program, a behavior modification system and various incentive programs are also provided. The Keys to Success Program encourages children to have a positive attitude, to be highly motivated, know the importance of hard work, be well-prepared, follow the rules, work and play well with all people and care about the people and world in which they live.

In its efforts to reach a permanent solution for children struggling in school, a school counselor meets with each student individually at least once per week.. The counselor works with each child to identify root causes of the child's difficulties and to develop a plan to address critical issues. The counselor communicates with parents/guardians regularly.
