Emergency Shelter Program

This program is designed to help children and youth, ages 6-18, who are residents of the City of St. Louis and at risk of family placement disruption or out-of-home placement.

The goal of this program is to provide support and stability for children and families where the problems may include:

  • Child is demonstrating significant behavior problems (including school problems) that put them at risk of out-of-home placement
  • Death, illness or other crisis in the family that temporarily interferes with the caregiver's ability to provide a safe and loving home for the child
  • The family is experiencing temporary loss of housing or some other temporary financial difficulty

Children and families participating in the program receive

  • Maximum of 30 days shelter placement with full-time, 24/7 professional supervision and treatment
  • Individual and group therapy
  • Family therapy and support
  • Crisis intervention
  • Linkage to community resources and psychiatric services
  • Transportation to school and other educational support
  • Aftercare

CHILDREN ELIGIBLE FOR THE PROGRAM MUST BE IN THE LEGAL CUSTODY OF A PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN AND CANNOT BE A WARD OF THE STATE

PARENTS AND/OR LEGAL GUARDIANS MUST AGREE TO PARTICIPATE IN ALL ASPECTS OF THE PROGRAM
