Those privileged to touch the lives of children should constantly be aware that their impact on a single child may affect a multitude of others a thousand years from now.
Volunteers are the lifeline of St. Vincent Home for Children. For more than 150 years, volunteers have helped the organization through challenges, transitions and milestones. Some Volunteer opportunities:
- Visiting Resource - A visiting resource should commit to at least one year of volunteer service and may have more than one child during the course of one year. The volunteers need to be at least twenty one years of age and should meet with the child a minimum of two times per month. They should demonstrate the following attributes: stable lifestyle, self-confidence, emotional maturity and responsible judgment, good general health, ability to be a positive role model, stable employment history, ability to establish and sustain close relationships, no serious emotional or psychological problems and ability to accept responsibility and to follow through. A visiting resource will work within the agency's policies and guidelines.
- Tutors/Classroom Helpers - Love to work with children and have a few free hours during the school day? Adults and 'teens (looking to earn service hours for graduation) are invited to share with our children through one-on-one tutoring or working with small groups in the classroom. Companion/Tutor/Mentor - - Be a companion or friend to one of our children by playing games with them, helping them with homework, reading to them or being read to.
- Recreation Therapy Volunteers - Adults are invited to share their special interests with the children as a coach of one of the Home's athletic opportunities or to participate in athletic and outdoor activities with the children.
- Maintenance Volunteer - Help tackle a small but important project around the Home, or provide your talents on an ongoing basis in the areas of gardening, renovation, etc
- Special Events Volunteer-Assist with planning our events prior to and on the day of the special event like our annual Kookin' for Kids, Golf for ChildrenTournament and other events.
